Project: Orton All Saints Church
A perpendicular tower dating back to the 13th century.
Here, we removed a cement tender and replaced with a beautiful sand and lime harling coat.
Location: Cumbria, UK
Project: The Transfiguration
This Roman Catholic chapel at the University of Lancaster dates back to the 1970’s.
By resurfacing the interior wall in lime plaster we maximised the paints long-term adhesion.
Well respected fresco and mosaic artist Aidan Hart created this wonderful art piece.
Location: Lancaster University, UK
Project: St Peter’s Church
Built in sandstone rubble with stone slate roofs, St. Peters is an active Grade I listed Anglican parish church.
Chestnut laths, coated in a haired lime (sustainable and hand riven) re-fixed to the ceiling and finished with a lime-rich skim coat.
Location: Heysham, Lancashire UK
Project: Jacobean Hall
Ceilings lathed in our chestnut and three coat Lime plaster. Walls skimmed in Lime / silver sand and Portland stone dust directly onto the stone (5 mm thick).
This was finished with a wooden float and the cornice and strapwork were all carried out in situ by hand in lime and sand.
Location: Heysham, Lancashire UK

Rupert Thomas – Editor, The World of Interiors
” It’s rare to find a craftsman of such skill and sensitivity as Lee. But the lime plastering he’s done for us – both restoration and new work- has been expert. This is the second project he’s worked on for us and we’re about to ask him to do a third. He is a delight to have on a job and his prices seem very fair given the excellent work he does. I couldn’t recommend him more highly. “
Sara-Jane Brocklehurst – Private Homeowner
” L. J. Richards provided finishing lime plasterwork on both the interior and exterior of my home in the summers of 2008 and 2009. The finished lime plastering was exemplary. “
Christine – Garstang – Private Homeowner
” L.J Richards replaced the lime plaster on my 180-year-old stone cottage when I set out on my renovation project in 2012. Three years later I continue to love these natural lime washed walls. Lee is a long experienced lime plasterer of old stone properties and dedicated to retaining the natural breathability of their structure. He demonstrated a sound knowledge and understanding of his craft and materials when working with me.
We remain in touch today and he often tells me about the latest specialist workshop he has attended, the apprentice under his wing, the best suppliers of natural materials in the UK and how he has recently refined the hair content of his plaster to achieve a finer finish for his clients. “
” Lee Richards and his team were recommended to me by an architect friend as specialising in lime plasters. My 17th century Hall was undergoing renovation and I needed specialist help. Not only did Lee provide me with excellent advice and assistance but he and his team delivered the complex project within budget and in good time. I can confidently recommend his firm to anyone engaged in this kind of work. “
